It’s been over a quarter of a century since we first joined MHJC, initially being attracted by it’s reputation as a warm, welcoming and hamish congregation. Over time we’ve grown to appreciate just how important our “MHJC family” truly is, with many of our closest friendships having grown through our shul involvement. When we lost my Dad, the line between friends and family quickly became blurred. Friends of ours from other towns, most of whom we have known for what seems like forever, were surprised at the outpouring of support that they saw. Many remarked over the ensuing weeks that they had never seen anything like it in their own communities. For me at least, this is what makes a Shul. Of course, the ritual aspects of prayer are the foundation of a Temple, but the essence of a Shul is its heart.
